Self Portrait after Jenny Saville

I did this self portrait as an a Life Painting assignment.  The professor provided a video of portraits by Jenny Saville and gave the assignment to incorporate ideas from the artists work into a painting.

Follows is a great video in which Jenny Saville describes her work.

Her portraits speak to me.

Pastel Self Portrait

The current pastel exhibit at the deYoung Museum, San Francisco, "Color into Line - Pastels from the Renaissance to the Present" inspired me to take out my own pastels. Working from a photo, this actually looks like me.

Lack of a model is the reason for the self portrait.  I think I will do more!

Sandra - A sister of the Artist

When to say a painting is finished..... My sister may never approve this portrait, but I think the likeness is strong and that the painting for me is finished.

Mask Wearing - What it says about you.

I am going to turn this rough drawing into a painting soon.  It will be my next project.

The see through mask is a wish of mine.  The masks that come up on online searches are non-medical grade, so pointless.

Maybe soon masks won't be necessary? For now, I am a believer.

Academic Style - A Self Portrait

I painted this self portrait in a Grand Central Atelier online class with Diana Buitrago.

The academic style worked well for me as I am currently studying 19th century art, but I think the background and shirt colors make the portrait more contemporary than neoclassical.

Its great that I have a hobby that I enjoy and can do inside until the Pandemic is over.

Princess Reagan

I am still working on the dress for this little princess.

It's hard to know what Reagan is thinking at 5 years old.  She looks pretty self-satisfied.

I wish we could all princess our way out of this pandemic!
